1. Who we are
Travan is a free browser extension that shows the price history of products on online stores, built by its users ("travelers"). This policy covers the Travan extension and this website.
2. What the extension collects, and why
Product information
When you open a product page, Travan reads the product's name, price and currency, the page's address (with tracking parts removed) and the store's product ID. When the page provides them, it also reads the seller's name, the model number, the category and the brand. On pages without a product, nothing is sent.
On stores whose rules only allow prices to be checked when you ask, Travan reads nothing until you press Check price history.
This information is sent to Travan's server, together with your traveler code, to build the shared price history that every traveler sees.
Your traveler code
When you install Travan, it creates a random code on your device, like CRV-7F3K-9QXA-M28F. It is not linked to your name, email or any account. Travan uses it to count contributions (how many prices a code added per store per day), to make sure an unusual price is confirmed by several different travelers before it's accepted, and to limit abuse.
Abuse protection
To stop people flooding Travan with fake prices, the server turns your network address into a salted one-way hash (a scrambled code that can't be turned back into the address). Your network address itself is never stored. Hashes kept with unconfirmed unusual prices are deleted after 30 days, and rate-limit counters live only in the server's memory for about an hour.
Anonymous usage counts
Travan keeps simple daily counters, with no page addresses and no personal details: how often the popup is opened, how often no product was found and how often a discount code was copied (store name only), and how many travelers visited a product that day (each traveler counted once per product per day).
Feedback, only if you send it
When you use Send feedback, Travan sends your message, the report type, the page's address, what Travan detected on the page, the extension's version and language, and your traveler code. Your email is optional and only used to reply. If you choose to include a screenshot of the page, it is emailed to the Travan team only and is not stored in the database.
Stored only on your device
Your settings (language, theme, bubbles, discount codes), the bubble's state, the list of products you saw today (so visits are counted once), whether your device is in dark mode (for the toolbar icon) and your traveler code are kept in your browser's extension storage. Apart from the traveler code, as described above, none of this leaves your device.
3. What Travan never does
- Never collects your name, passwords, payment details or the contents of your cart.
- Never tracks you across websites.
- Never inserts affiliate links or codes into pages, and never sets cookies.
- Never changes or hides prices because of a commission.
4. Price history from other sources
To fill in history, Travan's server also checks public product pages once a week (except on stores whose rules don't allow it) and reads archived copies of product pages from the Internet Archive. These contain no personal data.
5. Discount codes
Travan may show a store's discount code. If you copy it and use it, the store pays Travan a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Travan only counts that a code was copied, and on which store. It never sees your order or what you bought. You can hide codes in Settings.
6. This website and the waitlist
If you join the waitlist, Travan stores your email address, the page's language and the time you signed up. We use it to tell you when Travan is on the Chrome Web Store, and occasionally to share Travan news, like a thank-you to early supporters. We never send spam, and you can ask to be removed at any time.
This website remembers your language and day/night choice in your browser. Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives the standard information any website request includes, like your network address.
7. Services that help run Travan
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Render | Runs Travan's server |
| Supabase | Stores the database (hosted in Frankfurt, Germany) |
| Resend | Delivers feedback and waitlist emails |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website |
| GitHub | Runs scheduled jobs and keeps private backups |
| Google Fonts | Serves this website's fonts |
They only process data to run Travan.
8. How long data is kept
- Price history is kept as shared community history. It is linked only to random traveler codes.
- Feedback is kept for as long as it's needed to handle the report.
- Waitlist emails are kept until you ask to be removed, or until Travan stops sending news.
- Database backups are kept for up to 90 days.
9. Your choices
- Turn off bubbles for one store or for all stores, and hide discount codes, in Settings.
- Uninstall Travan at any time. This removes everything stored on your device.
- Press Delete my data in Settings → About. Travan's server deletes your feedback and contribution counts, and unlinks the prices you added from your traveler code (the prices stay in the shared history, with no link to you). You then get a new traveler code.
- To leave the waitlist, reply to any email we've sent you.
10. Children
Travan is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their information.
11. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
12. Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
Questions or deletion requests: use Send feedback in Travan, or reply to any email we've sent you.
